Director of Finance The Director of Finance is the senior-most finance and administrative leader, responsible for the oversight, control, and management of all financial reporting requirements and day-to-day oversight of the administration of the support activities of the College. Responsibilities Establishes policies and practices for and directs the administration of accounting activities of the College including: budgeting, general accounting, auditing, and program/contract management. Accountable and responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate safeguards to protect the financial assets of the College. Prepares or directs the preparation of financial analyses and reports for use by the College and/or its Board of Trustees. Oversees and is accountable for the preparation of the College’s annual operating and GAAP financial statements and the preparation and submission of both federal and state tax returns. Prepares critical and confidential reports of cash flow, grant funding, revenue, and expenses and ensures the integrity of all financial records and supporting materials. Monitors expenses, drives cost containment, and oversees the procurement process for the College. Serves as staff representative to the College’s Finance/Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees and to the Defined Benefits and Defined Contribution committees. Responsible for the oversight and efficient operation of facilities maintenance, purchasing, and inventory management. Functions as the principal interface on all financial and payroll matters with the appropriate representatives at the American Bar Association. Provides leadership, direction, coaching, counseling, performance feedback, and, where necessary, applies discipline to an assigned group of employees. Basic Qualifications Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in accounting, finance, and/or business administration. At least ten years’ experience in financial management and reporting, at least seven years of the experience must have include managing/supervision a team of finance and accounting team members. Previous experience applying generally accepted accounting principles and practices, business and management principles, and strategic planning and budgeting. Previous experience working with financial accounting databases. Intermediate knowledge of the capabilities and application of products from the Microsoft Office suite of Products. Preferred Qualifications Possession of an advanced degree from an accredited college or university. Certification as a CPA or CMA. Previous experience presenting financial analyses and business plans to a governing body such as a Board of Directors and other senior leaders. Previous experience in grant accounting and management. Previous experience in managing relationships with both Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution committees and vendors. Travel As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel of less than 10% of the time.
