Senior Electrical Engineer DO-254 - Sierra Nevada Corporation (Reno, NV) in Reno, Nevada For Sale

Type: Other Jobs, For Sale - Private.

To give you a little background, our project involves FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) certification of an avionics product. For such products, the FAA requires the engineering to be done per a variety of development guidelines/processes.
For FPGA work, the applicable process is DO-254. We have several very experienced FPGA engineers, but we have never dealt with DO-254. Additionally, all of our FPGA engineers are currently busy on other assignments.
We are looking for help in three areas:
Creation of DO-254 compliant documentation.
There are quite a few ( 10) documents required by DO-254, covering a range of plans, standards, and procedures.
Typically, there is a lot of boiler plate that can be applicable from one program to another, but there is also a LOT of detail that is quite specific to the particular project.
The FAA is quite picky about them; they cannot be quickly thrown together.
It requires a lot of careful, detailed work to put them together. We are looking for someone who can help us navigate our way through this process and write the documents themselves.
This speaks to the need for a senior engineer who has been down the road before.
FPGA high-level design.
There are multiple FPGAs in our system, so the work will also involve coming up to speed on our system and how it has been partitioned, what each FPGA will be doing, and developing the high-level architecture of each FPGA design.
This work will not be done from scratch, as we already have a working concept demonstrator and a closely-related prototype system which has been flying for several years.
We are also currently in development of a new non-FAA system which will be the starting point for the architecture of the FAA system.
Transition to our internal FPGA team. Once the DO-254 documents are in place and as our FPGA engineers free up from their current work, I fully expect they will be able to take over and complete the remaining DO-254 development effort.
I am looking for someone to start in January xxxx. I expect the duration of the above work to be in the 3-6 month timeframe. There could easily be some low-level, periodic consulting to help with later stages of the DO-254 development; we can work that out later.
