Position Purpose: The Supervisor, Cancer Registry administers, organizes, and directs administrative activities of the Cancer Registry according to established program policies, procedures and standards. Plans, defines, evaluates and implements techniques for the collection and retention of accurate and timely oncology patient data. Directs and supervises the daily administrative activities of the cancer registry.Nature and Scope:This position develops and maintains quality control for complete and accurate case:finding, abstracting and patient follow:up data for all cancer patients meeting eligibility requirements by the American College of Surgeons:Commission on Cancer (ACoS:CoC) standards for diagnostic and/or treatment of malignant and some benign diseases at Renown Regional Medical Center. The supervisor maintains quality control for identifying, abstracting, coding, follow:up data, and cancer program requirements and physicians medical record reviews. Serves as the IMPAC/MRS database administrator.This position is an active member of the Cancer Committee and coordinates implementation of ACoS:CoC requirements for Cancer Program accreditation. The incumbent prepares monthly, quarterly and annual presentation analysis, assist in the preparation of the Cancer Program annual report; handles routine data requests, assists physicians and administrators with gathering information for related studies, and provides guidance in the appropriate use of registry data. The incumbent oversees the coordination of all cancer conferences; cancer committee meeting coordination to include completion of minutes and agendas; and ensures accurate documentation and maintenance of the above activities meets or exceeds ACoS:CoC Cancer Program requirements.The incumbent must be prepared to participate as a member of the departmental leadership team to achieve business goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. In this role, the supervisor will keep administration appraised of equipment, staffing, and supply needs, and will communicate operational issues or problems and participate in process improvement or resolution activities. The supervisor serves as a role model in practices, work performances and efficiency.The incumbent will monitor registry costs and overtime usage to ensure budget compliance, will report deviations, and will assist in developing action plans to correct budget variances. Assist in planning departmental operating and capital budgets by monitoring functional areas to assess equipment and supply needs, staffing patterns, and potential new services to achieve uninterrupted, cost effective resource utilization. Participate in long:range planning for the department and Medical Center by facilitating goals and strategic plans. The incumbent will also audit time and attendance bi:weekly and monitor staff compliance with Renown Regional Medical Center policy. The supervisor will conduct staff meetings and draft minutes to document proceedings. The incumbent will mentor staff members to develop strengths and skills to enhance overall department performance. Complete staff evaluations and six:months progress reports, offer developmental plans pertinent to the position and employee growth.Maintenance of adequate staff is this positions responsibility, including hiring new staff members, evaluating and counseling existing staff members, scheduling work hours and days, and termination of staff members when appropriate. The incumbent develops staff to ensure an effective continuum of functions, formulate goals, action plans, polices and procedures, and descriptions related to operational process change and/or improvement and implements new processes or change and monitors effectiveness of actions, providing feedback and modification as indicated.
